The state has announced it will appeal the ruling. The court followed the public rapporteur's recommendation for the total annulment of the project, citing insufficient justification for the environmental impact in the public interest. This marks the first time in France that an autoroute project has been stopped for environmental reasons. The construction, which was about two-thirds complete, is now suspended. The state and the contractor, Atosca, have expressed their intention to appeal, while environmental groups have celebrated the decision as a significant victory.
